Tiri Hughes

Tiri is a former RNC student (2015-18) – during which time she chaired the student representative group for two years, and was student representative to the board of governors during her final year. She gained A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Maths and Further Maths, before leaving to attend the University of Oxford to study Medicine. Tiri has been working full-time as a doctor at Oxford University Hospitals since graduating from medical school in 2024. She is currently completing 2 years of rotational foundation training, currently working within paediatric surgery, and will soon apply for higher specialty training. She gained a competitive Academic Foundation post providing protected time for medical research, for which she will soon join a laboratory research group in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in the field of paediatric molecular oncology.

Tiri has a long history of involvement with disability activism – from speaking at the House of Lords in her teens, attending parliamentary protests relating to visually impaired children’s rights, sitting on the committee that created the Young Vision Alliance parliamentary campaign and giving evidence to a parliamentary select committee regarding disabled children’s rights within the Children’s Act 2014. Tiri has also been involved with various committees at university primarily relating to improving the lives of disabled students. Tiri is now gives regular guest lectures for Oxford Medical School on Healthcare Inequalities for Disabled People
